Ramree is a vast, hammerhead-shaped expanse of land near the coast of Rakhine State, central-western Myanmar (Burma).Measuring 1,350 sq. km (838 sq. miles), it’s a populated area that’s achieved notoriety for its somewhat macabre history: At the end of World War-II, British soldiers forced their Japanese opposition into the marshes on the edge of the island, where 400 men are said to have been eaten by saltwater crocodiles.
